In the last one year, there have been several developments in the AI space, including agent assistants who can carry out tasks on your behalf and more comfortable, multimodal methods to interact with chatbots. In Openai Devday 2025, the company took a platform to unveil a series of updates designed to help developers more efficiently creating AI solutions and deploy. A major highlight app was the launch of SDK, which, in simple words, enables developers to create a real app within the Chatgpt interface. This is a glimpse in the next stage of Openai’s main product, which was told by Nick Turley, the head of the chat. In a press Q & A will act like an OS.
“What you are going to see in the next six months is an app from an app that is really useful in something that feels a little more like an operating system, where you can reach business services and you can reach software, both use existing software, but more important and most thrilling, new software that is built on top of the chat.”
During Devday Keenote, we had already got a glimpse of what it could probably look through the chatup app pilot partner demo. For example, a software engineer in Openai, Alexi Crystachis, led a live demo to show the integration of the Canva app within the chat. She was able to request that Canva makes a poster directly within the chatbot, which was able to produce four posters in the line. He later converted the poster to a slide deck to Canva, again using a simple chat prompt.

This, of course, is not in the first stab apps of OpenIA, such as the first available within the chatbot with experiences such as custom chatbots or GPT. However, they were mostly limited to an inline chatbot text exchange. A specific factor of the new apps is their deep integration in the Chatgpt experience. While announcing apps SDK during Keenote, OpenAII CEO Sam Altman said that it was opening the app building for developers, “to enable a new generation apps that are interactive, adaptive and individual to enable apps of a new generation.”
Another example of this interaction was highlighted in the Zilo app demo, where Crystachis was able to filter the results of the house he wanted to use only one text prompt. This is far more comfortable experience than selecting many different toes on the Zillow website to achieve the desired results.
Being able to see apps in full-screen was also another major upgrade, opening the opportunity for more developers to create an opportunity to create experiences within the chat that are more consistent with the app. At the time of launch, APP SDK Partners includes domestic names such as Booking.com, Canva, Cinera, Figma, Expedia and Spotify, in which 11 additional partners are expected to join later in the year. App SDK is now available in preview for developers starting today for developers. At the end of this year, the developers will be able to submit apps to reviews to be listed.

All users can reach these apps, regardless of membership tier. To activate the app, just start a message to Chatgpt with the name of the app available at the beginning of the prompt. The chatbot will also suggest the relevant chatbot based on your conversation.
In the future, these apps can also take advantage of agentic features that do continuous tasks on your behalf. Even though the apps are really created to do, Turley assured users what is capable of chatting will be “very expanded” and should feel “meaningful different”.
