If you are like me, then you probably are prominent to Google’s search engine on the web several times a day to get information on specific subjects. But if you are working in Windows, it means that you have to stop what you are doing, fire your browser, go to Google’s search site, and then enter your query. Wouldn’t it be quick and easy if you can do all that without launching your browser? Well, now you can.
A floating Google search bar can be displayed anywhere in Windows, a new Google Labs dubbed Google App for Windows. Just type your query in the search field, and the results appear in a scrollable window.

The window works like a regular result page. You can move from one page of results to another and narrow the results by images, shopping, news, videos, and more. If you want an AI-based synopsis of results, you can also jump into Google AI mode.
The new app also taps in Google lens, which means that you can select it and find any text or image on your screen. You are also able to copy the text or image and translate the text into a different language.
To try it, head for head Google App for Windows Lab pageTo turn on the experiment, flip the switch and then click on the download app button to grab the installation file. Double-click the file to install the program and then sign in with your Google account when indicated.
A window pops up in search of your permission to access your local files and your files in Google Drive. By default, the app will have access to both places, but if you do not want you want to include those files in your search results, you can disable them.

Wherever you are and whatever you are doing in the windows, just press the Alt+Spacebar to trigger the search bar. Ask in any field, type your search query or question, and the results will appear in the window. To close the bar, just press the Alt+Spacebar again.
Google works in Windows 10 and 11 for the Windows app and is currently accessible only in America. Google said that the app is still experimental and there are some known limitations. If you want to try it, do not delay, because Google warns that the location is limited.
Google Labs is the place where the company tests practical features to see if they will catch among users. Google needs to ensure that its traditional search engine still remains relevant and popular at AI age. Bringing your discovery directly on Windows is a smart step for the company and a one who should also prove to be easy and helpful for Windows users.
