    ZDNET Highlights

    • Clearing cache slows down Galaxy Watch.
    • Cache buildup can cause delays and drain battery.
    • Restarting is not enough, so you may want to clear the cache manually.

Your Galaxy Watch is no different from your phone or even a dirty room. When it is used excessively, it also becomes cluttered.

By constantly using your Galaxy Watch, regularly switching between apps and functionalities, or running too many apps at the same time, you are trapping it in data that clutters it and slows down performance. This results in slow performance, frozen screens, and annoying user experience.

Luckily, hope is not lost – and you don’t need to buy another device to fix this problem. In fact, I would recommend you not to do this whenever you are experiencing any performance issues with your technology. Before you spend a lot of money on a new appliance, there are some tips and tricks you can use to breathe new life into an old appliance.

This is, probably, the easiest solution to slow smartwatch performance: clearing the cache.

What is cache on Galaxy Watch?

Treat cash like a trash can. It temporarily stores your smartwatch data (or junk) and, in this half-baked analogy, considers that data when you log into sites or perform routine tasks.

Like a dustbin, it gets filled with junk after some time and starts overflowing if not handled properly. To add more junk (or data) to the can you will eventually have to dispose of the junk in the dumpster.

Clearing your cache removes some of the junk that is slowing down Galaxy Watch performance.

Also: Why I recommend this Samsung Galaxy Watch over competing Androids

According to a Samsung spokesperson, the Galaxy Watch’s memory management is handled automatically through system-driven optimization. However, you can still take manual steps to clear the watch’s memory.

How to clear cache on Galaxy Watch

To close all recent apps on your Galaxy Watch, swipe up from the watch face and tap the Recent Apps icon. From there, select Turn off all.

If you want to manage apps running in the background, open the Recent Apps screen again and tap Active in background. You can then select the specific app you want to close.

To optimize your phone’s performance, go to Settings, select Device Care, and then tap Storage. From there, you can choose Clean Now to free up space.

How often should I clear my cache?

It is a best practice to clear your Galaxy Watch’s cache from time to time, especially if you notice slowdown or hiccups in performance. The process is straightforward and quick, but there should be a noticeable difference in your watch’s performance afterward.

When should I not clear my cache?

If your watch is glitching, slow, or draining battery faster than usual, clearing the cache may remove corrupted or outdated files, A Reddit user explainsThe Reddit user also explains that there are some circumstances when you should avoid cache-clearing, like right after a software update, when the smartwatch is already using extra compute power to rebuild the cache.

Can restarting my watch do the same thing?

Restarting your watch may fix some bugs and glitches. However, a reboot will not clear the cache, so no, it’s not the same thing.
