Key takeaways of zdnet
- Python programming is the most demanded skill for a series of technical initiatives.
- Amazon web services’ demand for skills demand is far from available supply
- Prompt engineering gets flat as skill after a demand
In the era of artificial intelligence, some skills are of gold. However, for some emerging technology sectors, there is a significant mismatch among the available skills and the required skills. For example, while early engineers are considered one of the hot skills for the AI era, at this time there are more quick engineers than demand.
It is one of the latest of McKinse Global Institute Report Many major emerging technologies, which see the skills associated with each technology. Interestingly, some traditional technology skills, such as Java and C ++, are necessary. The level of Java skills available in the market – especially for AI projects – is almost equal to the demand for such skills.
Too: Great AI skill disconnect – and how to fix it
There is speculation that AI and economic trends may have less opportunities for software developers. Nevertheless, as it shows this report, the demand runs warm for specific technology initiatives.
The brightness of the engineers soon is an eye opening. Only 12% of the listing for agent AI asked for early engineering skills, and talent supply is more than four times. Similarly, the supply of C ++ skills required by 21% of companies for application-specific semiconductor is higher than demanding by a factor of three.
Blockchain, which was seen as a game-changer many years ago, is only in demand between 4% of companies. The supply of skills is about four times the level of demand for such skills.

With a healthy ratio of high demand vs. low supply, most technology categories are shining skills, python programming. Python is well considered for its versatility and simplicity, which is used to develop everything from the web application to the machine-learning algorithm to the quantum computer. (In particular, Python also came to the top of the ZDNET programming popularity ranking, which was compiled by my colleague David Gewirtz.)
For the beginning, the available pool of python development skills meets only half of the demand seen by companies. This agent is the highest skill in demand for AI projects, in which 57% listing is asking for this skill.
Python programming skills seem to be the winners throughout the board. It is also the most soughting skills for application-specific semi-semi-semi-semi-semi-semi-specific, within 37% of these listings, as well as 25% of clouds and edge projects and 11% listing for advanced connectivity projects.
Too: Open-source skills can save your career when AI knocks
The pool of the Python Talent available for the immersion-reality application (eg virtual reality) is less than one third, which is seen. Python skills are also being sought for quantum computing initiative, which are hungry for skills.
The availability of skills of Amazon web services is also far from demand. Given the basic AI, for example, the ratio of the supply of AWS skills barely make a dent in the level of demand. The same is true for clouds and edge projects, in which AWS skills are equally rare.
When it comes to quantum computing, any person with such skills can write his ticket. Here, perhaps not surprisingly, the correct skills are virtually non-existing-the demand for quantum skills supplies supply by a factor of five.
Top skills for each emerging technical field
The top three skills for each major technology sector here are sought, as documented in the McInsey study. Note that some categories saw a decline in posting – this reflects a trimming from a peak hiring period between 2021 and 2022.

Too: The best free AI courses and certificates in 2025 – and I have tried many
Of course, this is only the top surface of the skills and congestion of talent required to pursue innovative techniques. Each of the above categories has its own unique requirements. AI is an underlying force in all categories, and those who can channel its power will gain a competitive lead in their career with the right training or certificate. It is a rapidly changing world, but opportunities are widespread.
