Video Friday is your weekly selection of the terrible robotics video collected by your friends IEEE spectrum Robotics. We also post a weekly calendar of upcoming robotics events for the next few months. Please Send us your events for inclusion.
World robot summit: 10–12 October 2025, Osaka, Japan
IROS 2025: 19-25 October 2025, Hangzo, China
Enjoy today’s video!
We demonstrate a new landing system that allows the drone to be safely landed on vehicles moving up to 110 km/h. By combining lightweight shock absorber with reverse thrust, our approach greatly expands the landing envelope, making it much stronger for air, time and vehicle speed. This success opens the door for reliable high-speed drone landing in real-world conditions.

This video presents an academic parody inspired by Cast’s Humanoid Robot Moonwalk. While Qist demonstrated the iconic step with robot legs, we comic formally introduced it using Tesolo DG -5F robot hands. A playful experiment can show that not only humanoid robots but also robot fingers can “dance”.

20 years ago, Universal robots created the first collaborative robot. You made it something big. Our cobot was never technology. In your hands, it became something else: a teammate, a problem-solution, a spark for change. From factories to lab, from classrooms to godowns. This is the story of the last 20 years. This is what we celebrate today.

The newly developed auxiliary robot Maya in DLR is designed to enable people with serious physical disabled to live a more independent life. The new robotic arm is designed for seamless wheelchair integration, with standing functions with standing functions, ground-level access and adapted kinametex adapted to compatibility.

Contoro and Harco Lab have launched an open-source initiative, ROS-MCP-Server to the AI model (eg, cloud, GPT, gemini) using ROS and MCP. This software enables AI to communicate with several ROS nodes in robot language. We believe that this will allow robots to do impossible tasks due to limited intelligence, helping the robotics engineers program more efficiently in the program, and enables non-experts to interact with robots without deep robotics.

The correct answer to the question, ‘Can you defeat a robot arm in tick-tac-to’, no, you can’t. And you cannot beat a human, either, if they know what they are doing.

Robots are no longer science-fi. They are developing rapidly. AI is teaching them to optimize, learning and even respond to open-ended questions with advanced intelligence. The CTO of Boston Dynamics, Aaron Saunders explains how this jump is changing everything from simple control to full-motion. While there are some challenges related to safety and reliability, AI is largely helping the robot to become a valuable partner at home and on the job.
